Western Veil Nebula

Also known as NGC 6960, Caldwell 34.

Part of the Cygnus Loop

Probably one of my favourite deep-space objects.

Remnants of supernova explosion about 10000-15000 years ago.

The intricate filament structures are thin, undulating shockwaves of the explosion passing through the heated, ionized gas.

The blue light comes from the doubly ionized oxygen (O III), while the red colour comes from hydrogen (Hα).
